The engineer behind the firm
Mbuyamba Engineering was founded by Francis Kalonji Mbuyamba; a mechanical and aerospace engineer with a track record of designing hardware that survives millions of use cycles, passes military-grade drop testing, and ships on time.

Francis holds dual degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering from West Virginia University. Over five years as Senior Mechanical Engineer at Jaycon Systems, he led the design and development of electromechanical products from concept through production, including a themed haptic-feedback device that met MIL-STD-810G drop test standards within a sub-1-year timeline, and interactive attraction hardware engineered for over 300,000 use cycles across a 25-year service life. His work has spanned DFM optimization, thermal management, custom test rig development, vendor qualification, and failure mode analysis for hardware operating in high-cycle, high-abuse environments.
Francis founded Mbuyamba Engineering to bring that same rigor to companies that build physical products and can't afford field failures, whether that's an exhibit fabricator designing interactives for millions of visitors, a hardware startup preparing for its first production run, or a defence organization recommissioning critical test infrastructure. The firm operates as a specialist engineering partner, working remotely with clients across the United States, South Africa, and internationally to solve the mechanical engineering problems that sit between a promising design and a product that actually ships, lasts, and performs.
Values behind our work
First Principles Over Assumptions
We start from the physics, not the convention. Every recommendation is grounded in why something works, not just what's been done before.
Built for the Worst Day
We design for the harshest user, the hottest environment, and the millionth cycle, not the demo room. If it survives the worst case, it thrives in every other.
Honest Engineering
We tell you what's wrong before it costs you money. If a design isn't ready for manufacturing, we say so early, not after tooling is cut.
Solve It End to End
We don't hand off problems. From concept through production, we stay with the engineering until the product ships and performs.
Make It Buildable
A brilliant design that can't be manufactured affordably isn't a solution. We optimize for the factory floor, not just the CAD screen.
Earn the Next Call
We don't chase long contracts. We deliver work good enough that clients come back because they want to, not because they have to.
Lets work together
Good engineering starts with a conversation. Tell us what you're building and where you're stuck.
